Rest In Peace Great Blue Heron

Rest In Peace Great Blue Heron
Originally uploaded by Finiky.

There are two that fish at the pond I go to take photographs. A couple of weeks a ago, the entity that manages the pond or lake as they call it, gave permission for a trap
for a Beaver. :-(

My beautiful Great Blue Heron somehow got one of it's leggs trapped, broke it.

Some of my "pond" friends as I call them saw some people gathered, and the Heron was struggling to get free. My friends freed it.

I learned today officially that my beautiful Great Blue Heron did not survive. I am crushed. There are two at the pond, but this one is the one I have photographed time and time again. The other less likely to get near people.

While I am not trying to be overly dramatic, this is a huge loss. The traps, plural, as I have now learned, were set without any thought given to other wildlife. I have now learned that all the traps have been removed. The only good thing is it most likely spared another life. There would be no wrath like mine if Ernie were to be injured by a trap. That you can take to the bank.

So I wanted to pay tribute to the Great Blue Heron - he deserves it.

PS: In Virginia Beavers must be euthanzied, not relocated. Apparently, some people who live near the pond/lank complained that the beaver was destroying trees. Where I dunno, because there is massive construction site just a stone's throw away that they should be more concerned about. Not to mention the goregous OLD trees they torn down IMHO
